Abstract

In this article, I will review the emergence and context of action of the Coordination of Human Rights and Counseling of the Presidency in the Mexican Supreme Court, to analyze how it contributed to generate intercultural legal processes, that is, the relationship between different legal cultures, which resulted in in a democratization of legal knowledge and justice itself to the extent that it contributed to the opening of many judges to apply international human rights law, in force in the country as of 2011. The main conclusion is that these processes of legal interculturality, although they exist given that the intercultural is constitutive of culture, as Gilberto Giménez points out, they can be prosecuted by agents strategically positioned in such a way that they contribute to the democratization of law and access to justice, to the extent that that make visible and value the existence of other legal cultures and their understandings vernacular of law. This work is the product of an ethnographic investigation carried out between 2014 and 2015 in the Supreme Court.
