Author Biographies

Atina Krajewska, University of Birmingham (UoB). Birmingham. Reino Unido.

Professor Atina Krajewska is Professor of Law and Birmingham Fellow at the University of Birmingham, UK. She holds degrees from the University of Wrocław in Poland and Humboldt University in Berlin, Germany, and has worked in UK universities since 2008. Her work brings together expertise from socio-legal healthcare studies, transnational legal theory, sociology of law and sociology of professions. As such, it can be described as part of the Sociology of Health Law - a new area of academic research that he has been developing in recent years. Within these broad parameters, he uses sexual and reproductive health law as a case study to examine wider social and legal phenomena. Currently, her research focuses on the development of Polish abortion legislation, investigating the relationship between political transitions, legal reforms and the development of the medical profession. She is also leading a project on “Building Reproductive Justice with Indigenous Women in Northeast Brazil”. She collaborates with a number of civil society organizations and NGOs concerned with improving sexual and reproductive rights in different countries around the world.

Post-doctoral researcher in law at PPGD/FDR (UFPE). PhD (University of Manchester) and master's degree (University of Brasília, UnB) in law. She is co-principal investigator of the project “Building Reproductive Justice with Indigenous Women in Northeast Brazil”, funded by the AHRC/UKRI. She has an interdisciplinary background, with experience in International Relations, Social Communication and Law. She specializes in the sociology of international law and human rights, with an emphasis on Latin America. She has been a visiting professional at the Inter-American Court of Human Rights and a researcher at the University of Bologna, the Max Planck Institute for International Law and Comparative Law and the University of Birmingham.  She currently conducts research involving a Sociology of Justice, with a focus on the functioning and effectiveness of essential institutions for justice (especially courts and national human rights institutions) and on human rights subjects such as indigenous peoples, people with disabilities and women
